We sat down (virtually) with former Celtic centre-half Ramon Vega and we asked him a few questions on his time at Celtic working with Martin O’Neill and Henrik Larsson and we also questioned him on Celtic‘s current side and his opinion on Celtic’s managerial dilemma. We thank Ramon for taking his time to answer the questions as he gave us a real great insight into his time at Celtic and his current thoughts.

‘AN INSTANT LOVE AFFAIR WITH THE HOOPS’

The big Swiss defender was in no doubt that his favourite moment in the Hoops was his double on his debut against Aberdeen at Celtic Park in a 6-0 victory, for a centre-back he scored 4 goals for Celtic in the six months he was in Glasgow and Vega described it as, “an instant love affair with Celtic.”

‘MARTIN WAS A GREAT GENTLEMAN’

Vega who won a domestic Treble for Celtic in his six months at Celtic had some fine words to say for his former gaffer Martin O’Neill, the now 49 year-old said that arriving at Celtic on loan from Spurs was a “total new experience as Martin was not on the training pitch every day and only came on matchday but had a great impact on me and was a great gentlemen too.”

‘LARSSON THE LEGEND’

Vega who joined Celtic during the 2000/2001 season, an historic season for Celtic, made an impressive 26 appearances with Celtic and was a well liked character at Celtic Park and was in no hesitation with who the best player he’s ever played alongside was, Vega emphatically said, “the best player I played alongside was without a doubt Henrik, he was a legend and it was a privilege to play alongside him and win for Celtic.”

’CELTIC FANS ARE THE BEST IN THE WORLD’

Ramon had some kind words to say for Celtic support as we asked him what it was like to play in front of 60,000 at Celtic Park in Glasgow Derby games and European games as well and he was unequivocal in his answer, “Celtic supporters are the best in the world, it still gives me goosebumps thinking about walking onto the pitch, the passion at Celtic Park is unbelievable.”

‘NEXT SEASON IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR CELTIC TO CHANGE PHILOSOPHY’

Following on from his time at Celtic, we asked Vega about his thoughts on Celtic this season and with his ex teammate Neil Lennon resigning in February after disastrous results in Europe and domestically, Ramon now thinks it’s the perfect time to “change philosophy and rebuild.” The final question we asked the former Grasshoppers legend was who he thinks is the man to go into Celtic and change the fortunes, he responded, ”there are many managers out there who could be a good appointment for Celtic but it’s all about what the Celtic board and executives have in mind for the longer term and build foundations for the future.“ Ramon also added that, “this should not be a quick decision as there has to be long-term planning.”

A big thanks to Ramon who answered our questions in full with great detail and it was a real pleasure to get an insight into his time at Celtic and what his thoughts are now. We hope you enjoyed reading this interview and once again a big thanks to Vega.
